“Maya, Kear…you need to go to bed.” MJ murmured. These girls had been up most of the night and were practically nocturnal. “There’s not much I can do for you…”
“But Mother…” Maya whined. “We can’t sleep! We’re too excited about tomorrow!”
“Yeah, Kaa-san, we can’t risk missing it!” Kear was born on her dads’ side, Sakeari, as Japanese like MJ while Maya was raised mostly by hear mother, Lynn. They were the same girls, only different heritage. It was like MJ and her sisters. She was brought up on the ways of her great Japanese ancestors and her Asian demon father.
“I wouldn’t leave without you and you know that.” MJ reassured them. She had promised them to take them on a horse back ride tomorrow with her and Fire-star. She had nothing more to do but take them along; otherwise havoc would rise about the castle.
“Hush, my darlings…
Don’t fret,
I’m here…”
“The stars are high…
And mist is low…
Upon the waters
Nightly glow…”
“For moon shines bright
In the face,
Of tomorrow…”
The girls silently fell asleep with fluttering eyes. MJ could sense that they were fully lulled though.
“In the eyes of the fire,
We seek our pain…
In the gleam of snow
We find our voice”
“I’m what you need…
I’m what you hear…
I’m what you feel
Soft at night…”
“I’m yours…
Forever…”
The deep breathing of Kear and Maya was heard throughout the corridor. She pulled the blankets up over their shoulders and kissed each of their foreheads and left without another word. It was far too easy to put them to sleep.
“Amazing…” Isabella breathed. “You did it without a threat…they seem…well, to put it properly, obedient!” MJ shook her head with another stoic look to her face.
“If a song is what they want, a song they shall get.” She whispered to herself. “Now, if you don’t mind. I must retreat to my own corridor. I have a promise to keep in the morning.”
